Hi i am a 42 year old woman whose father died of pancreatic cancer when I was 11 years old. At the time my GP told me i should get tested in my 40s for pancreatic cancer as she was unsure if it was hereditary or not. I have spoken to my GP but he doesn t think it necessary. Should i get tested and how do i go about it?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Varinder's Response
Hi
Welcome to HealthcareMagic
I also do not think that pancreatic cancer is hereditary.
As far as screening is concerned you may go for MRI abdomen at age of 40. But please avoid alcohol and fatty foods and maintain adequate weight plus BP and sugar level and lipid profile under control.
As these are main causes of pancreatic pathology.
If you have any further query then you can come back to HealthcareMagic. I will definitely help you and guide you appropriately .
With Regards
