Is Pentids Sufficient To Treat Itchy Throat And Joint Pain?
Dear doctor, our son(10yrs) is using pentids 400mg as half tablet in morning and half in evening for one year for joint pain and throat itching. His ASO count was 440 one year before. Doctor told now our son can discontinue the pentid tablet consuption. Some elders told us for ASO related problems children should continue tablets till they are 15yrs old. Let us know your valuable advice on this to email id - YYYY@YYYY
Noted the history about your 10 year old son suffering from itchy throat and joint pains, taking Pentids continuously for one year and the Doctor advised to stop, ASO titre was 440 before one year which surely too high. I would advise you the following in such a situation: First of all get the ASO tire and other blood tests like CBC, ESR, RA factor. MRI of any one more affected knee. Consult an Orthopedic Surgeon to review the condition of the knee joints and correlate with reports. Consult a Pediatrician and ENT Surgeon for second opinion. All this will lead to a proper diagnosis and the present status which will guide for further management. Complete the course, follow the advise as would be given.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
