Is Persistent Dull Pain In Both Legs A Cause For Concern?

My name is Shelby. I m a 22 year old female, about 5 3, 115-120lbs, I have been experiencing really dull achy leg pains in both my legs for about 2 years now.( in my entire legs, not just a certain part) Last year I had such intense pain during the night that I woke up to get some pain medicine, and ended up passing out in my living room briefly. The next morning I went to the Emergency room because my blood pressure was extremely high. I got an MRI and a chest scan, blood work, nothing explained my leg pains. As for the fainting,(because I have fainted in the past aside from that night) the doctor told me she thinks that when I stand up too fast, blood flow doesn t reach my brain fast enough which can cause fainting. She wanted me to get further treatment to see what is wrong with my legs. But without health insurance, I can t afford to get a bunch of tests done. I work more than full time, 50+ hours a week, and I have these leg pains about 4-5 times a week, sometimes more and sometimes keeping me up at night. I ve tried to re-search leg pains but the results are just terrifying to me so I don t want to jump to any conclusions. Also, when I m going through the leg pains, I feel weak, sometimes nauseous- and I feel like sitting/laying down makes it worse, and I have to get up and walk around-even though that doesn t take away the pain. I also have always had an irregular heart beat, and I do have Anxiety. I m on birth control pills, have been since I was 16. My question is, what can be the cause of my leg pains? Is it something I should be very concerned about? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are suffering from persistent dull pain in both the legs. You are also feeling weak and nauseous. You also have history of anxiety and irregular hear beat. You are on birth control pills since you were 16 years of age. Your symptoms are indicative of peripheral artery disease (PAD), peripheral neuropathy, lumbosacral radiculopathy, chronic venous insufficiency, DVT, deep venous therapy, stress fracture, shin splints, tendonitis, muscle sprains, strains, etc.

Yes persistent pain in the legs if left untreated are a cause of concern. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get yourself adequately hydrated. Take rehydrating fluids to restore potassium, sodium, magnesium, and other minerals. Avoid being dehydrated. Medical conditions like diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, fibromyalgia, nerve damage may trigger leg pain.

Stretching , massage and warm compression may help to relieve pain in the leg. Get X-ray and MRI done to detect any fracture, tendon, ligament tears, etc. Wear comfortable footwear and keep your legs under rest ice, compression, and elevation may help. You may require to take Acetaminophen, one SOS when needed to get rid of pain legs. If fracture, PAD, DVT, venous insufficiency, etc., if detected will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
