Is Persistent Ear Pain And Fluttering Sensation Related To The Neck?

I have had a tremendous earache for a couple years now. It has been eased by IBU 3 times a day. Recently i have to increase the dosage to get thru the day. Now this pain is causing a fluttering like symptom in my ear. I had xrays last week that showed no signs of anything. Could tthis be a neck issue?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

For your ear pain, first of all, Otological causes should be ruled out such as ear infection, impacted wax, otitis, labyrinthitis etcetera.

For that, Otoscopy ear examination should be done first. If Otological causes not present, then tooth inflection like causes can be ruled out by examination which can lead to referred ear pain. Also, consult an otorhinolaryngologist for further examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
