Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Persistent Pain In The Ribs After A Fall A Cause For Concern?
I am a 58 yr old female. Two weeks ago I tripped and fell on the concrete sidewalk on my right side. I did not go to the doctor since it didn t seem that bad at the time. However the pain is constant and not improving, with a very intense sharp pain when I try to reach and pick something up. I m wondering if I just need to ride this out or should I get an x-ray to see if there is a fracture. I know there is not much to do for ribs anyway but I want to make sure that something is not misaligned or something. Also, it feels hot in that area, which could just be the healing I suppose. Want to be sure that is normal. Thank you Emily Risberg
Hello! thank you for your query. The pain you are feeling may be due to an inflamed muscle which have been injured when you fell, but I still a advise you to have an x-ray to rule out any possibility of fracture since you have a constant pain. You can also take Anti inflammatory medications such as Celecoxib 200 mg 2x a day for pain and inflammation. You may also apply cold compress on the affected area to reduce the swelling. I hope this helps!
A feedback is highly appreciated! Best Regards,
Dr. Regadio
