Is Plunger Essential To Remove Lenses Post Bilateral Blepharoplasty?

I have worn hard lenses for 43 years. I have scheduled a bilateral blepharplasty (upper and lower) and a bilateral cathoplasty next month. My octoplastic surgeon has advised that I must use a plunger to remove my lenses in the future. Is there any reason why I could not be fitted for soft lenses and avoid a plunger. Thanks!

Hello,

The type of lenses that your treating surgeon will give you depends on the type of blepharitis you have, commonly in mild blepharitis, soft contact lenses are more preferable as they are less likely to get heavily deposited. Each day the soft lenses are swapped for a new pair and are worn for a short period, hence complications will not be there.

In moderate to severe blepharitis hard contact lenses are less suitable as the deposits and debris associated with blepharitis can adhere to hard lenses. Adherence of debris causes discomfort and complications. It’s essential to maintain a good eye hygiene.

Consult and follow your eye doctor’s recommendations if you choose to wear hard lenses. You should tell your treating doctor if you choose to wear a soft contact lens, you will be given whatever is best for you. Or you can take a second opinion from another eye surgeon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
