Is Prednisone Safe To Be Used After Thyroidectomy ?
I just had a thyroidectomy on tues, I can t speak, i am spitting up phlegm and the doctors just told me both my vocal cords are Stunned and i should take prednisone for a week. Why? I am taking metoprolol beta blocker for arythmia, 2 baby asprin and ativan for my anxiety with this whole situation. is prednisone safe? is if for the phlegm or the vocal cords?
hi, Short course of low dose prednisolone is safe to use, along with other drugs you use. it reduces the inflammation in your vocal cords and prevents allergic bronchospasm secondary to surgery or other drugs. It also reduces the phlegm that emanates from tracheobroncial tree post surgery on vocal cords. However, do not exceed the prescribed dose as it may lead to delayed wound healing and suture infections at surgical incision site. Hope this helps.
