Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had my copper IUD removed august 10th. I ovulated the next week and we had unprotected sex. I was supposed to start my period yesterday and it still hasn t come. Hpt is neg. Could I still be pregnant or is it normal for your period to be offtrack after the removal of the IUD?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. IUD like 'Copper T' is one of the most effective and safe forms of birth control. It is easy to insert and remove and is maintenance-free once inserted. When the IUD is removed, your fertility returns quickly and there should be no delay in your ability to get pregnant. Since your periods are delayed and although your HPT is negative, you need to confirm by by the following means about your pregnancy status. 1. Serum beta-HCG levels. 2. Trans-vaginal ultrasound scan of pelvis. These investigations should give you a more clear picture about your pregnancy status. If these indicate pregnancy is negative, then you should get your periods shortly. Hope the information provided would be useful. All the best.
