Is Pregnancy Possible After Taking Emergency Contraceptives?
Hi. Recently I unprotected sex with the pull out method. However I ve been given the depo shot 3 tomes. Although I did have sex two weeks after my Depp shot expired. Just to be save, I did take a B pill within 24 hours. How likely Is it that I m pregnant??
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Even if you have intercourse by pull out method after the expiry of depo shot, you still carry a chance of getting pregnant. Hence, what you have done is right by taking Plan B within 24 hours of the act. Plan B is an emergency contraceptive pill, which offers protection against pregnancy after having unprotected intercourse. It needs to be consumed within 48 hours of unprotected intercourse and it has a failure rate of about 10%. Earlier it is taken, it is known to offer better protection. Following intake of Plan B, you need to get your periods within 3 weeks from the day you have taken it. That makes sure that you are not pregnant. In case this doesn't happen, you need to seek medical help immediately. Hope the information provided is clear. All the best.
