Hi my name is tabatha. My question is i had my tubes tied 11 years ago. I have had regular periods until this month i am 2 weeks lateas of this coming saturday. A friend sugessted i still take a pregnacy test so i bought and took one at the week late date it was negative. My question is could it be a false result
Hello, Thank you for your query. I understand your concerns.
The success rate of tubal ligation in preventing a pregnancy is very good. Hence it is called permanent sterilisation procedure. After 2 years of the operation 3-10 women/1000 women may become pregnant. This is still extremely low percentage of women.
So, to answer your question, a woman could become pregnant after tubal ligation, but the chances are very very small.
As you had your period delayed by 2 weeks, if you were pregnant it would have shown up by now on the pregnancy test. As the test is negative, it is very unlikely that you are pregnant.
You could wait for another 1-2 weeks and your period may come on its own. Alternatively see your doctor who can prescribe progesterone hormone pills to bring your period on.
I hope this answer has been helpful to you.
