Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking EllaOne?

Hello. Is it possible to be pregnant 3 days after unprotected sex? I had sex on the 3rd of November, taken ellaone on the 6th but I m still worried that I might be pregnant as my period has not yet came. I usually have my period every first or last week of the month but then again I have irregular cycle. I don t have any sympotoms of pregnancy like abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Thank you for your help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The efficiency of emergency oral contraceptives is highest when consumed within 48 hrs. The chances of getting pregnant despite taking the pill are about 5 to 10 per cent.

I would suggest you take a home urine pregnancy test for self-assurance. In addition, you can undergo an ultrasound scan and a beta HCG test to leave no room for doubt.

Apart from that, other possible causes of delayed periods include stress, thyroid dysfunction, PCOD to name a few. If the stress of pregnancy is causing you to delay, taking a pregnancy test will help you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
