Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend last Wednesday but he put on the condom when he knew he was going to cum. I know that it s possible to still get pregnant because of precum so I took Plan B One Step about 3 hours later. I was on birth control (patch) for about a year and a half and I just stopped last month because we were taking a break. I was supposed to get my period yesterday (Tuesday) and I still haven t. Im freaking out because I would always get it every month on a Tuesday (sometimes even monday) but never a day late. I don t know if it s because this is my first month without a patch and maybe I m not going to get it the same day as I used to since it s not being like controlled by it or if it s because I took the pill a week before I was supposed to get my period and it might delay it? I m also scared because I got the pill from my clinic last December and when I took it on Wednesday I didn t check the expiration date and I didn t feel anything or had any side effects like other people do so idk if it could ve been expired. I ve noticed that after I took it I ve had more discharge than usual. I know it s been only a day after I m supposed to get my period and it may be too soon but I m worried. Is there any chance I could be pregnant? Thank you!
Since you were not on regular CP or BC patch either & took plan B within 24 hours, it can protect you from pregnancy but it is not as effective as regular contraception.
You should have taken emergency CP within 72 hours, plan A for better effectiveness.
If you do not get your periods to see a gynae at the earliest & get assessed & treated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
