Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking An I-Pill After Unprotected Intercourse?

Hi doctor, I had unprotected sex on the 25th, took an ipill within 12 hours. My previous period was on 12th April which I delayed due to some rituals and got it on the 17th. Am I safe from being pregnant? It s been 6 days since the pill and I haven t had any withdrawal bleeding yet.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Based on the history you have provided, it seems to be right by taking emergency contraceptive pill kine 'i pill' by 12 hours of unprotected intercourse.
The pill would prevent pregnancy by causing breakthrough bleeding within 3 weeks from the day of its intake.
In case the bleeding does not happen by 3 weeks, then you need to take urine pregnancy test and seek medical attention promptly.
Failure rate of such emergency contraceptive pill is about 10%.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.,
