Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Using A Copper-T IUD?

Hello. I am a 33 yr old female with a CopperT iud in place. I am wondering if I am pregnant and experiencing a miscarriage or implantation bleeding or ectopic. I started what I thought to be my period 23 days after my last cycle. I am almost always 28 days between. I have had a bright red flow with some clots for the last 6 days-also unusual for me I never go beyond 4 max 5 days. Cramping is consistent and I usually don t have that either. Should I take a pregnancy test? Would any of those situations lead to a positive pregnancy test?

Hi,

Yes, pregnancy is possible despite using copper T IUD, but that is very rare possibility like 1 to 5%. In your case, as there is no missed period and you have active menstrual cycle. There is no chance of pregnancy. Furthermore copper T IUD can cause menstrual irregularities (Unusual bleeding), Hence, this is not something to worry about.
