Is Pregnancy Possible Inspite Of Missing Few Trinessa Birth Control Pills?

I m on trinasa birth control but I missed 2 or more pills in the third week of the pack. I had unprotected sex on the Friday of that week so I went to my doctor to get levonelle but I forgot to ask if I need to start a new pack on the Sunday or just take my placebo tablets And he did not mention anything either. Should I had started a new pack?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Trinessa is combined oral contraceptive pill contains estrogen and progesterone which are the two major hormones of the Menstrual cycle. The contraceptive effect is by preventing the development of endometrium of the uterus thereby avoiding the implantation of the fertilized egg, changing the consistency of the cervical fluid which inhibits the motility of the sperm and by preventing the ovulation and release of egg.

If the cycles are regular, missing two or more pills during the first 7 days of cycle will need emergency contraceptive. There is no need of emergency contraceptive during the 3rd week of cycle, since the ovulation usually occurs between 12th and 14th day of the cycle in most women. Continue the tablets as per the schedule. Visit the Gynecologist for further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
