Is Pregnancy Possible Postpartum While On Birth Control?

I went to my OBGYN on Tuesday and she told me everything looked great, my Stitches were out, and I got my birth control put in, she said it s effective immediately and I was okay to have sex. But I just had a baby three weeks ago. If my boyfriend and I had sex today can I get pregnant since it hasn t been 6 weeks?

Hi & Welcome.

It depends upon the timing of taking the birth control pills.

If started on the first day of the period it provides protection from pregnancy immediately.

However, if the birth control pills are started on other days it may not be able provide protection from pregnancy immediately you need to have a back-up form of birth control like condoms for the first seven days after you start taking the birth control pills.

Hope this answers your query.
