General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Yes, it is possible to get pregnant through intercourse a day after menstruation. Sperm can survive inside the female body for up to 5 days, so if you ovulate early, there is a chance that the sperm can fertilize the egg. As the condom broke, there is a possibility of pregnancy.
Emergency contraception pills can be taken within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected intercourse to prevent pregnancy. Some common brands of emergency contraceptive pills include Plan B, ella, and Next Choice. It is important to talk to a healthcare provider to determine which type of emergency contraception is best for you and to discuss any potential side effects or risks. It is also important to note that emergency contraception is not 100% effective and should not be used as a regular form of birth control.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
