Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, me and my girlfriend had unprotected sex, on december 1st, i didn t ejaculated inside of her but for precaution she immediately took nordette ecp, 4 pills 1st dosage and after 12hrs 4 pills again, it s been 11 days already and she isn t showing signs of bleeding(spotting) or anything, her last period was on november 11, should we take a pregnancy test or wait another week to do so?
I understand your concern. Normal date of period is: 11th November. Date of unprotected sex: 1st December. So you did sex on 21th day of cycle. It is a completely safe period if your girlfriend have regular period of 28-30 days. 10th to 18th day of cycle is considered as fertile phase of period, during this time ovulation is occur and so pregnancy is possible.
Again nordette as emergency contraception was take in corrected manner immediately. It has 80-85% effectiveness in preventing pregnancy. Withdrawal bleeding will not occur in all cases. And there is no relation between withdrawal bleeding and pregnancy. Period may be delayed by 1-2 week as nordette cause hormonal imbalance.
So wait next 1-2 week for period. It will come in next 1-2 week. If period will delay by more then 2 week then consult the gynecolgoist and undergo urine pregnancy test and or blood HCG to confirm pregnancy (chance is less). If you will be pregnant then you can still terminate pregnancy by abortion pill under advise of gynecologist.Meanwhile avoid stress, take healthy diet, drink plenty of water and do regular exercise.
Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.
Best regards, Dr. Sagar
