Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i am taking althea pills now.first timer and it was only for two days..then my husband and i had sex on the same second day and he cum..according to the instructions it should be 1 week after taking the pills a woman would be safe in pregnancy.. but at the same time it was actually the day when my period stopped..am i possible to get pregnant?
Yes, the possibility of pregnancy can not be ruled out. Althea pills are commonly used to prevent unwanted pregnancy.
Ideally, if you start the pill on the first day of your period (day one of your menstrual cycle) you will be protected from pregnancy straight away without any back-up method such as a condom.
If you start the pill on any other day of your cycle, you will not be protected from pregnancy straight away and will need a back-up method such as a condom for the next seven days as a precaution to avoid pregnancy.
So, in view of the above since you have not taken the pill on the first day of your menstrual cycle therefore there is a possibility of pregnancy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
