Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started taking norethindrone for birth control. I did not know that it was crucial to take the pills at the same time everyday so I have been taking it before I go to bed which varies. I started taking my sugar pills Sunday the 12th, it s now Monday the 20th and I still have not gotten my period. I did have unprotected sex but he did not ejaculate inside me. I took a pregnancy test but I was so nervous I did not pee on it very much. It came out negative but I m still freaking out that I might be pregnant.
Norethisterone is a contraceptive method that has a high protection against pregnancy but unfortunately no contraceptive method is 100% effective and norethisterone as well. A downside of it is that the patients need to take it regularly in the same time every day and variations more than an hour might effect its efficacy.
Because your pregnancy test was negative very likely you are not pregnant, still it might be good to repeat the test in 3-4 days to make sure this is the case.
Meanwhile continue the pill regularly while you have a negative test. If you have not been using it regularly recently due to fear of pregnancy please start it again and use condoms the first week for better protection.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
