Is Pregnancy Possible While On Birth Control Pills?

Hi I have a question. I ve been on lutera birth control for over 3 years now. Last month I didn t take my birth control as carefully as I normally do, often taking it hours late and missing one day, only to have to take 2 the next day. This past saturday I had sex and the condom broke. I was on my period. I started my new pill pack Yesterday. Is there a possibility I could become pregnant?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Irregular oral contraceptive pills may cause contraception failure and lead to pregnancy. But if you were already on your periods, as u mentioned, then there is no chance of pregnancy. Post periods, if you had unprotected intercourse, then the chances of pregnancy might be there.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pinal Vaghasiya, General & Family Physician
