Is Pregnancy Possible While On Birth Control Pills?
I had sex for the first time a month ago. I had my period since then, and then last week we had sex twice. I have been on birth control for over a year and take it at the same time every night. 5 days after our fourth time having sex (last week) I had very light spotting. We used a condom one time and pull out method the other time (which I know is not effective) but my birth control pill should be. What is causing the spotting days after intercourse that wasn t my first time?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Birth control pills are known to ensure more than 99% in preventing pregnancy. If you are taking birth control pills everyday at the same time regularly, then you should be well protected against pregnancy. What spotting you could have noticed might be because of mucosal injuries sustained while having intercourse or bleeding of fragile vessels in the endometrial region. If you are getting periods regularly while on sugar pills (placebo pills), then you need not be worried that you are pregnant. In case spotting happens repeatedly, it would be ideal for you to undergo per speculum examination by consulting Gynecologist. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
