Is Pregnancy Possible While On Birth Control Pills?

Hi. Since May 2016 I have been on 3 different types of birth control. I started with the jadel (two rods in my arm) during that time 1 year. For the last 6months of it I had been taking the Ava 30 pill at the same time to control my bleeding. I am now off that and now getting the depo injection. I have had two injections my next one is due in April. I have never had any bleeding since starting the depo but yesterday I got my period. It wasn t spotting. Just a full on bleed.should I be worried. (PS I got the injection as soon as they took the rods out of my arm. I think of the worst of maybe I had fallen pregnant and now misscarried. But I m sure that can t be possible..

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There is a chance of becoming pregnant on Oral Contraceptive Pills (OCPs), it is very much likely in your case, and that should be due to as you said changing the method.

I do not think you had pregnancy or miscarriage, so do not worry, that is due to hormonal changes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
