Is Pregnancy Safe For A Woman With Postural Tachycardia Syndrome?

Hello, I am a mother with a concern for my pregnant daughter who has Pots. I understand that giving birth can have many complications because of her condition. However, she has other issues as well. 1. She will be 27 in June. 2. She has had a heart ablasion 2.5 years ago. 3. She was diagnosed with Pots last year. Her heart rate can sky rocket from laying down to sitting up to 140 bpm. 4. She is excersizing and etc. doing everything she should to manage her condition. 5. AT 16 years she had a hernia and the Dr. put a patch to correct it. 6. She has 18 weeks to go. 7. I had to have 2 c sections because of my bone structure, size. With all that I have shared I am concerned for her when she goes into labor. Because of her condition and her blood pressure issues and heart rate that is involved with Pots, this could be serious. Not to mention the patch and her past heart surgery. From what I have read on line her condition going into labor is serious and that she should be consulting with Doctors who are very familiar with this condition to treat her and deliver the baby. Going under anesthia can make her blood pressure go lower etc. . . If she has to deliver by c section and/or if because of giving birth her heart rate sky rockets, etc. Currently the Dr. she is seeing has not even mentioned her condition and her risks during delivery. My daughter said it was a bit surprising that it wasn t discussed. Just like she didn t have a condition. I know that her condition is difficult to treat and it is recommended that she has Drs. who are experienced deliviering babies with her condition from every angle to treat her. As I mentioned all of her issues. We live in Southwest Michigan, Kalamazoo Michigan. Do you know who is an experienced qualified Dr. in this area who could deliver the baby?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, risk is obviously involved but you should go to a good hospital where all facilities are available like gynecologist and a cardiologist which she will require at the time of delivery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhanu Partap, Cardiologist
