Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a laparotomy done November 2015 - it was severe intestinal obstruction ( I previously had a myomectomy done January 2014) I want to try IVF by August this year. Surgery incision is from top of tummy right down to bikini line (18stitches). Is it okay/safe to try to get pregnant now?
Noted your short history about Myomectomy surgery in 2014 and Laparotomy in 2015 for intestinal obstruction and now you are thinking of getting pregnant by IVF. It all depend upon the following things: If the surgery done was more than a year. Consult a General Surgeon to have a clinical examination and get CT scan of abdomen and abdominal wall also to know the possibility of having uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery. Also consult your Gynecologist about the possibility of any complication during IVF, pregnancy and delivery or C-section. Your own intuition and experience about any intestinal obstruction, weakness of scar and so on. Proper examination, counselling and investigations alone can decide the possibility and uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
