Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Presence Of Inflammation Possible Even After Microvascular Decompression?
I had microvascular decompression surgery through a craniotomy of the VIII cranial nerve eight weeks ago. It was decompressed at the brainstem and in the internal auditory meatus. I still have loud noise, but it has come down in pitch. I also still have the pulsing. Could it be that there is still swelling and inflammation in that small space that is squeezing things together? The neurosurgeon s feel that the surgery was a success, but I thought I would be better by now.
There may be still some inflammation due to the surgery. Anyway, if the problem persists, I recommend performing a new brain MRI and checking thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid gland dysfunction.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
