helo sir iam sami.age-28 .married.. sir am suffering from psoriasis frm last 9 years..actuvaly psoriasis start frm my head n slowly moving on my body..my body having some red patches is der..i hv met so many doctores bt der z no cure for me..so nw m using propysolic ointment for scalp..so dis ointment should help for scalp or nt..dn sir i want to go for phototheory..
Scalp psoriasis is managed by topical steroid+salicylic acid lotion/solution, applied twice daily. Propysalic lotion rather than ointment would be a better option for scalp involvement because ointment would be messy to use in the hairy areas like scalp.
A coal tar+salicylic acid based shampoo is also part of treatment for scalp psoriasis..
Propysalic lotion can not be continued indefinitely because of the risk of steroid related side effects like skin thinning and atrophy. Therefore once the disease is brought under control with steroid lotion, it can be stopped OR else for mild disease the patient can use a Vit D analogues e.g calcipotriol lotion which is devoid of the steroid related side effects of propysalic lotion.
