Is Radiation Advisable For A Small Tumor?

I had surgery. The Doctors couldn t make up their mind One said more surgery, the other said radiation ! the radiologist said there was one half a centimeter left to be concerned about. I have the month of June of radiation. Followed by anastrozole tablets. I don t understand why so much radiation for such a small area that isn t cancer? I have DCIS early stage .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It can be pre malignant however if biopsy is showing any signs of neoplastic cells or tendency for it, it's better to get it surgically removed and if some part remains recurrence is still feared so better to follow it up with radiation. If in doubt, repeat biopsy of the remaining section, and then oncologist review may be helpful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
