Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Radiation Treatment The Best Solution For Liver Mass At The Age Of 85?
I have just been diagnosed with a mass in my liver which is believed to be malignant. I am 85 years old and had colon cancer surgery 3 1/2 years ago which was believed to be contained and successful. Now my ongologist believes the cancer in my liver is the result of the previous cancer and as it is in such a deep place does not suggest surgery at my age but feels radiation treatment is the best treatment. Do you agree with this solution? I completely trust him and I am planning on proceeding with this plan. Please respond. BKA
Thank you for your question and concern Yes I agree with your Oncologist. After cancer treatment you can have metastatic cancer to another part of the body. Radiotherapy will be the best optionand follow by serial CT Scan liver function tests tumour markers for liver AGO and colon CEA as follow-up
