Is Red Wine A Good Substitute For Beta Blockers To Control BP Levels?
My aorta valve is leaking, my cardiolgist says. He suggest puting me on beta blocker to reduce my blood pressure. i don t drink alcohol. Can consuming a little alcohol (i.e., red wine) be a safe replacement for beta blocker instead. Thank you in advance for your responce.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Consuming red wine would help in increasing good cholesterol (HDL) levels in blood, thereby preventing progress of atherosclerosis as it contains substances that act as antioxidants. However, it is not known to effectively bring down blood pressure. Hence, it cannot be used as a substitute to medication namely beta blockers. Kindly take the medication as advised and do the necessary follow-up as suggested. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
