Is Redness Near The Incision After Reconstructive Knee Surgery Normal?

My son had reconstructive surgery on his knee using cadaver tissues and under his incision on the inside of his knee there is a red area that is approximately 2 wide in a candy cane shape around his incision. I am wonder if this could be infection or a natural healing process.

Hi,

Yes, this kind of red area beneath incision is normal. It suggests healthy healing. But if that area becomes swollen or painful or discharges fluid or pus then immediately consult an operative doctor because the possibility of infection will be high.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
