Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have IBS and duverticulosis and recently had bowel obstruction surgery. I have developed diarrhea and abdominal pains in upper abdomen. I have been advised to take Miralax once a day and fiber. Is Miralax advisable to take daily? I have skipped a day and now I have not had a stool today (only two tiny ones). Doctor warns me I can t risk getting constipated, but the diarrhea is spastic and happens immediately after a lunch or dinner meal, about three events following.
I agree with your doctor, that constipation should be avoided, and extra fiber along with Miralax should help prevent that.
If you are having multiple episodes of diarrhea in a day, you may not need to take as much Miralax, and perhaps your doctor can adjust that dose.
That said, I would definitely talk with your doctor before making any changes to make sure you do everything you can to avoid another bowel obstruction since obviously, that would be much worse than diarrhea.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
