Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am cutting back on drinking, and have tried to use Benadryl (75 -100) per night to avoid withdrawal by sleeping. The withdrawal symptoms have eased, but my BP has risen considerably (145/90) and my heart seems to be beating hard. Is this the withdrawal, or the Benadryl?
benadryl doesn't have any effect on B.P. Even at toxic doses it causes fall in BP. There are other drugs available for withdrawl symptoms, like chlordiazepoxide, which is a sedative. so, discuss with your physician and change even if the withdrawl symptoms persists. chronic alcohol intake will cause rise in BP, that requires to be managed in your case by proper diet with less salt intake, regular excercise i.e brisk walk or jog for 45 minutes everyday. this will help
thank ypu
