Is Running Healthy When Diagnosed With Hypertension?

My name is Lee. I have hypertension. My number right now is 146/83. I thought about going for a run. When I run I envision high adrenaline situations so I can get through the run....am I making the situation worse with the visualizations and is it healthy for me to run?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Blood pressure 146/83 mmHg is little high towards systolic end.
Running will not be a problem if you have pressures like yours. Take care not to exert yourself physically. If you slowly build up your running schedule, it would be better for you.
Take blood pressure medications as prescribed. Restrict your daily salt intake. Drink good quantity of water. Practice meditation to calm your mind.
This should help you to control your blood pressure within normal limits.
Hope the information provided would be useful.
All the best.
