Is Scratching Throat After Orthodontic Elastic Shot Back Into Trachea Serious?
I was putting my orthodontic elastic thats I very small and made out of latex I let go and it shot back I think into my trachea because I can still feel it the next day its kind of scratching at my throat and I am not sure what to do at the hospital what can they do for me and should I go I'm really concerned

Hi, the symptoms you are stating do not point to the passage of elastic entering into trachea. The more likely scenario is the passage of the elastic into the food pipe which is harmless. The sensation of scratching throat can be just because of apprehension of it entering into trachea. Please take steam and a cough syrup should also help in soothing the things. In case there is some noisy breathing or respiratory distress, a bronchoscopic examination may be required. Regards
