Is Severe Cramping In Stomach After Taking Oxaliplatin As Chemo Drug Normal?
My husband has stage 4 colon/liver cancer and is being given oxaliplatin for his chemo drug. He is having very severe stomach pain and cramping to the point that the pain meds are not helping. Is this normal or could he have a something else going on? He got his chemo last Wednesday (12/31/14) and came home with a pump which was removed Friday (1/2/15). This is his second treatment with this chemo, but I don t remember his last one being this bad.
Hi! It is unlikely to cause severe stomach pain to the extent of causing crampings! The main side effect seen with Oxaliplatin is severe vomiting and bone marrow toxicity. The severe pain your husband is suffering could be due to the advance stage of colon/liver cancer with involvement of sensory nerves resulting in severe pain. He must take opioid analgesics to get relief from such pain. Regards!
