Is Severe Ear Pain Due To Malignant Thyroid Nodule?
I have a thyroid nodule. 1 CNB that was suspicious for neoplasm. 2 FNAS. One was suggestive of benign and after I started having irregular bleeding in between menstrual cycle ENT ordered another biopsy that was non diagnostic. I always have some ear pain, ENT told me was related to my TMJ. The last couple weeks the pain has been worse and last night it was hurting so bad I couldn t sleep. I thought I had an ear infection so I went to the dr. And he said it was not an ear infection and he wasn t sure what it was. He plugged his tool in to show me inside my ear on the computer and and there was some white/cream stuff showing up. He said it could be from TMJ but truly didn t know. Could this be from my thyroid nodule being malignant?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Ear pain is likely to be due to disorder of temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ). Thyroid disorders may it be non-neoplastic, benign or malignant are unlikely to cause ear ache. Ankylosis, osteoarthritis etc of TMJ can lead to ear ache. Ear ache can also occur due to disorders of ear like excessive accumulation of ear wax, infection etc. Thus, clinical assessment of ear is required to determine the possible cause of ear ache. Regarding thyroid, thyroid function tests and aspiration cytology are required to determine the possible pathology in the thyroid gland. Further management can be planned after the nature of thyroid swelling is determined.
