Is Severe Pain In Neck Post Stretching The Neck Followed By Crack Sound A Cause For Concern?
Today in class I turned my head to the right and I heard a crack on the right side of my neck, and it started to hurt really bad, I co move my head right up or lean it to the right and I can barely keep my head up without it hurting, I went to the nurse, but she said that I might ve stretched my neck too far, but it hurts like SOOO bad, I wanna know if there is anything wrong with my neck
As per your description it could be a sprained neck. It is due to excessive sudden stretching of neck muscle which cause the muscle fiber to spasm. As of now, you can try the following measures 1. Take absolute bed rest for couple of days. 2. Apply warm compresses over the neck. 3. You can try over the counter available analgesics like Aceclofenac preferably with a muscle relaxant combination.
If symptoms persist you have to consult a physician and get evaluated, in that case you may require an X-ray neck.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
