Is Severe Pain In Sciatic Nerve Post Spinal Surgery A Concern?
I had spinal surgery on Aug. 5th and surgery went fine. However I had strong pain from siatic nerve..doctor told us my back had been compressed along with nerve for decades. They told me when I called about the nerve pain after coming home, it had been uncompressed & would be very active coming back to normal. already had 2 cages from previous surgery in 2010 .. this time had 2 more cages with 2 rods.Believe it is l2 to L4 or L5. Just wondering how long and how strong this will last ..is this normal? Was going to research this online then saw this and decided to see what you think. Thank You!
* Severe nerve pain is not normal post surgery and the same can be due to edema or compression at the operated part or the area above or below the same level.
* In my clinic, after the primary control of pain with intravenous opioids or else, I do recommend MRI evaluation of the region for best future plan of care.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
