Is Severe Sore Throat And Headache In A Teenager A Cause For Concern?

my daughter is a junior in college. Stayed home sick today with a sore throat ( for a few days) and a very bad headache. Her neck hurts a little, but mostly a bad headache. She had the flu shot yesterday. Went to Health center today and they did a rapid strep test-negative but sent a culture to the lad also, because nurse practitioner was surprised she didn t have strep. Could this be something more serious?

Hi welcome to HCM....

There is no surprise in streptococci negativity .....

Most of sore throat infection can be virus infection ....Ex..adenovirus .....

Here swab taken as doctor might suspect influenza infection ....
If it proves than oseltamivir like drug can be given.....which is specific for influenza. .

Meanwhile drink more water. ...

Spicy food restricted .....

Fruits more ....

Avoid smoking ....

Salt water gargles done ....
