Is Sexual Intercourse Advisable When Undergoing Treatment For Yeast Infection?

Hello. I am a male and I had a yeast infection after having non protected sex with my girlfriend (she does not have any symptoms). I am receiving treatment for three days (started with dactodor and i will continue with dactarin after the 4th day) and I would like to ask if I can have sex during the treatment using a condom and does my girlfriend have to do anything if she doesn't have symptoms?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
It is better to give a course of Yeast treatment for your girl friend also even if she is not having any symptom. Yeast infection can remain asymptomatic in women.
Otherwise you may likely to have reinfected even after the completion of your treatment.
It is better to abstain from sex (even with condoms) during treatment period, as she also have to take Vaginal gel or pessaries. Moreover a total abstinence from sex facilitates a total healing of genital mucosa.

Thank you for query.it is better to avoid sexual intercourse during infections including fungal infections.as the transmission between the partners is more and can be reasons for severity and recurrence.it can also can lead to discomfort and worsening of symptoms also.you can use condoms which may reduce transmission though not fully as there are other areas of skin to skin contact .it is better both take treatment even if no symptoms You can get back for any clarifications with details.Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist and venereologist
