Is Sexual Intercourse Painful For A Woman After Undergoing Posterior Colpoperineorrhaphy?

I am two weeks post op for rectocele surgery (posterior colpoperinneoprrhaphy). I am healing well and not in much discomfort. However, I am very nervous about resuming sexual intercourse with my husband in the next month or so. I am anxious that I am now too small to penetrate and that sex will be very painful. Could you give me any advice please. My follow up appointment is not until three months post op. I am 39 years old.

Hi,

You can wait for 3 week and when you feel perfectly healed before starting intercourse. You can use lubrificants and be gentle as you try intercourse. It will not be too small necessarily.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
