Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Sharp Pain In Big Toe On Movement Suggestive Of Chipped Bone?
When I move my big toe upward I get a sharp pain. We can put are full weight downward with no pain. There is no swelling in the joint. I m a 68 year old male in Good shape, take no medication and no family history of gout. We are thinking a chipped bone at the joint. Hope that helps
Pain that is related to a joint is generally worse in any direction. The fact that you have pain only when you move your big toe up but not when you move it down may indicate that the pain is not related to the joint itself. Very likely the tendon that moves the toe up is inflamed and this is why you get the pain.
You can use ibuprofen 600 mg every 6 hours after food and also use some local cold compresses to help with the pain. If you are not better in a few days or if you are any worse, a check with your doctor is needed to make sure of the cause of the pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
