Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Shortness Of Breath Related To Excessive Intake Of Fluids?
My husband had a quadruple bypass on the 27th of Dec. he was walking in the hall with a nurse two days later and blue Code. They did CPR, got got him back and put in a defibrillator. We have been home since the second of January and he has bouts with shortness of breath and says he is hot. His appetite is not good and he is not drinking a lot of liquids. Could this water intake have something to do with the shortness of breath? He says he seems to breath better when head has about three pillows under it. Is it common for shortness of breath? I think it gives him anxiety, understandably. His device has been checked and we have a machine beside the bed that reads the defibrillator . Just nervous tonight. Seems the breathing problem is a little worse than it has been. He is sleeping with neck and back propped up a bit now. He breathes slowly while sleeping now, then will get three or four heavy breathes. Should I be concerned at this point, or is this normal?
Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern. It's not normal these are signs of heart failure. Needs examination and evaluation through Echocardiography and ECG. Also do his MIBI scan to check tissue viability of myocardium. Limit salt and water intake. Start him on low dose diuretic. keep him prop up in home. Hope it helps best. Don't forget to rate this answer and close the discussion at Healthcare Magic. Take your best care. Regards Dr Ejaz
