Is Shot Needed For Swollen Area In Face Due To Scratch By Cat?

Hi, I am from the Philippines, eighteen years of age. My cat scratched me on my face, and I got 2 long scratches on the right side of my face. After washing it with running water and soap, I noticed that the are around the scratch is swollen. I am scared because they said I might have rabies because of it. Do I need to take series of shots to avoid any infection?

Hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

Yes, you need to observe the cat for 10 days. If there is any aggression, excessive salivation, Eating any unusual objects, and death f the animal. If the animal is clear of all the above symptoms, then vaccination is not necessary. Simple wound cleaning with antiseptic lotion and antibiotic course will do the job.

If animal has any of the above, Then go for post exposure prophylaxis.

Hope this guide you. thank you.
