My friend is having shoulder pain in his left shoulder and he says that he has heard something in the past that if your left shoulder hurts, your spleen may have something wrong with it?...is he on the right track with that, or is he just having normal pains?

its is nothing like what your friend thinks.. if that is so that a person should have left and right spleen... sorry for that.. shoulder pain can be due to many reason, it can vary from simple spasm, sprain or strain. it need to be diagnosed by GP. if it is long standing pain and affecting its daily activities
