Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
im 32. for about a month now everything i eat has a sulfur/metal kinda taste to it, i always smell the same smell also. I havent changed medication. But about 2 months ago i had a pretty bad sinus infection, after that i couldnt smell at all, and now the only thing i can is that weird smell. Its making me crazy.
The symptoms as mentioned in your post are attributed to Upper Respiratory tract infection. As your nasal mucosa is congested, your olfactory & taste buds are not able to function properly and you are not able to appreciate the smell & taste or getting a deranged smell.
Management will involve: 1. A course of antibiotics based on culture & sensitivity reports. 2. Warm saline water gargle. 3. Maintain good oral hygiene. 4. Steam inhalation. 5. Antihistamine preparations can be used to provide symptomatic relief. 6. Maintain adequate hydration & a healthy balance diet. 7. Also make sure that you are well protected from cold, dust & other allergens.
Your symptoms will be relieved with this. Wish you good health & a speedy recovery. Take care.
