Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
We have a constant skunk problem and it seems to be under our house. The fumes are coming up thru the floor into our home. We have been dealing with this for 2 months. The landlord had a trapper catch one skunk but the fumes are still potent and there must be more hiding. Are the skunk fumes harmful to my family? I have 2 daughters. 6 and 9. Thank you.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Skunk odor can be unpleasant for humans, but it is not harmful to human health. The odor is caused by a chemical called mercaptan, which is released as a defensive spray by skunks. While the smell can be overwhelming, it is not toxic and will dissipate over time. If the skunk odor is inside a building it is best to ventilate the area and use odor neutralizing products.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
