Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I currently am on 20mg of Citalopram a day and I find it extremely hard to motivate myself to get out of the bed in the morning, and can often find myself sleeping for 11-12 hours straight. Is this a side effect of the medication or could it be something psychological? 181cm 92kg
it could be both... Citalopram may indeed cause sleepiness. If you've been having sleepiness since the day you started citalopram then this is a likely cause. If you had sleepiness before that then depression may be the cause. Citalopram is used to treat depressive symptoms, therefore it may be the solution to your problem.
This is something you'll have to discuss with the treating doctor though, as the doctor is the only person who knows why this drug was prescribed.
I hope I've answered your question. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Kind Regards, Dr Panagiotis Zografakis
