Is Slightly Enlarged Spleen And Liver Normal In An Infant?

Hi, I am Rezwan. My 8.5 months male child recently had a routine abdominal USG and the impression was mild hepato-spleenomegaly (Spleen size is 8 cm) with normal texture, no focal lession, Hepatic biliary tree is well seen and found it normal. Spleen texture is also normal. He has no complain or health problem but i am very much anxious. Will you please tell me is it normal to have slightly enlarged spleen & liver?

Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern.
As infants has low space in abdominal cavity in infants up to 1 year. Hence there is mild hepatosplenomegaly. Spleen is 1-2 cm palpable below left costal margin and liver is also 1-2 cm below right costal margin in infants.
You should be worried only when there is history of fever, weight loss and anemia.
Hope it helps best.
Take care.
Regards
